The Creemore Echo is a trusted community newspaper, dedicated to delivering inspiring, engaging, and relevant local news to its audience. Operating from Creemore, ON, we focus on being the voice of the community, covering topics ranging from news, events, and features to community stories. The Creemore Echo is seeking candidates for a paid summer internship beginning in June 2026.
  • Youth reporter/photographer under 30 (Canada Summer Jobs program)
  • Minimum 35 hours per week for nine weeks, in-office employment with flexible hours, evening and weekend work required.
  • $25 per hour
A community newspaper reporter's job is to gather, analyze, and share news stories with the public. 

Responsibilities include: 
  • Researching and investigating: Gathering information through research, interviews, and field investigations 
  • Writing and delivering news: Writing news stories that are accurate, fair, and objective
  • Pitching ideas: Suggesting new story ideas to editors 
  • Collaborating: Working with other reporters and team members. 
Reporting duties: 
  • Conduct interviews and research articles as assigned by the editor 
  • Submit content to meet deadlines
  • Attend and report on meetings (local government, school boards, committees, etc… )
  • Generate content and unique story ideas
  • Attend and cover community events
  • Photography, processing photos using Photoshop, and caption writing  
  • Support special editions
Production/layout: 
  • Become familiar with style guides and best practices 
  • Process photos for pre-production 
  • Proofreading (follow CP Style)
  • Assist with post-production processes 
  • Web posting 

Qualifications

Applicants must:
  • hold, or be in the process of earning, a diploma or degree in journalism from a college or university; 
  • provide two professional references and be prepared to demonstrate skills in newswriting, photography, layout using InDesign; 
  • and have access to a vehicle.
  • Applicants will be required to demonstrate layout and writing skills In Design, Photoshop.
