Local Journalism Initiative Reporter
Are you a journalist with an interest in Indigenous issues and civic affairs? If so, the Delta Optimist has an immediate opening for a multimedia reporter to join our team.
The reporter covers local news and politics, community events, and anything else that is newsworthy. This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Local Journalism Initiative. The position will be between three and four days per week (22.5 to 30 hours) in a hybrid office model (in office and work from home). Hourly pay range $28 to $32 per hour.
As an LJI Journalist, you will report from city hall, band councils, school board, the courthouse and more. Your content will be shared widely across the Lodestar network. As an LJI, it will be made available to accredited media organizations for editorial use, and may appear across Canada.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Write and edit an average of six to 10 stories for print and online on a weekly basis.
- Take photos that are eye-catching, clear and engaging.
- Generate interesting stories and feature ideas.
- Participate in the growth of our digital offerings.
Qualifications
- A journalism degree, diploma or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of CP style.
- Proficiency in digital photography.
- Must be willing and able to work independently and as part of a team.
ASSETS- Knowledge of digital technologies.
- An interest in Indigenous communities/current events and experience in municipal council meeting coverage.
