Salary:

Description

The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) is one of the most influential voices in Canadian health care. Representing physicians across the country, the CMA has shaped public policy, strengthened the health system, and championed the public interest for more than 150 years. As the national voice of the medical profession, the CMA is evolving its enterprise leadership structure to better mobilize the public, engage governments, and drive meaningful system reform.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Vice-President, Public Affairs will lead a fully integrated portfolio spanning advocacy, government relations, policy development, communications, marketing, digital engagement, and public mobilization. This executive will play a central role in positioning the CMA as a national leader on issues that matter most to physicians, governments, and Canadians—designing strategies that influence public opinion, shape national debate, and strengthen trust in the medical profession. With a mandate that includes high-stakes issues management, public trust-building, and cross-country engagement, the EVP will work closely with the CEO, Board, and elected President to advance the CMA’s mission.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a strategic, politically astute public affairs executive with senior leadership experience in large, complex organizations. They are skilled at navigating federal and provincial policy environments, developing compelling public narratives, leading integrated influence campaigns, and building trust with diverse internal and external stakeholders. A collaborative, forward-looking leader, the EVP brings strong judgment, digital fluency, and proven experience managing issues involving public, political, or reputational risk.

The CMA and the CMA Group of Companies (CMA Foundation and CMA Impact) are committed to accommodating employees with disabilities, accessibility needs, and other protected human rights characteristics, to the point of undue hardship. Any candidate requiring accommodation is encouraged to make their needs known.

The CMA is committed to building diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible working environments and welcomes applicants who will contribute to the further diversification of staff, including women, racialized persons, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and individuals of any sexual orientation or gender identity.
