To help us continue delivering high-caliber journalism to our audience, we are hiring a Digital Editor to lead our daily newsletter.
In collaboration with several experienced in-house writers, you’ll apply a business lens to identify the issues, trends and ideas that our industry readers care about. We’re looking for a curious and engaged editor with solid news judgment who can curate leads, guide story development, edit and publish stories, turn audience metrics into actionable insights, and rally a team to strive for editorial excellence.
Ideal candidates will be adaptable and collaborative, and have a knack for learning quickly through research and asking the right people the right questions. Your decisions in this role will be guided by experience and instinct, as well as a knowledge base that will start with a general sense of the stories and topics likely to resonate with our readers and develop into a deep understanding of the industry over time.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Ensuring we are fast and best-in-class on breaking news and stories that matter most to readers
- Curating the strongest possible lineup from daily leads
- Editing and publishing a range of content (news stories, Q&As, op-eds, impact/analysis pieces, strategy dives, roundtable discussions, success stories, innovation spotlights, polls/surveys, research summaries, infographics, etc.)
- Writing SEO-friendly and engaging headlines, decks and other display copy
- Using audience analytics to spot opportunities and inform decisions
- Suggesting stories we should be covering
- Optimizing a team of in-house writers
- Evolving the brand’s digital content strategy and user experience
- Developing and maintaining high-level industry contacts/relationships to ensure our content direction remains authoritative and ahead of the curve
Qualifications
- Two to three years of experience working as an editor at a news outlet (ideally an online one, but anything that involves a daily news cycle is applicable)
- Solid news judgment and demonstrated ability to manage a daily news lineup and beat coverage, including generating story ideas, research, assigning stories, editing and writing display elements
- Clever and authoritative editorial voice, and high editorial standards
- Adept at CP style, with a keen eye for detail and copy consistency
- Clear communicator, excellent multi-tasker and effective small team leader
- Comfortable working with digital content management systems, content planning tools and other platforms
- Business journalism experience is an asset
- Inside knowledge of the international film and television industry is an asset
