Looking for your opportunity in the West? Alaska Highway News is an award-winning publication seeking a reporter to cover civic affairs and criminal justice in Northeastern B.C.
Based in the foothills of the Rockies, the reporter will write from city hall, the courthouse, school board, community events, and on anything else newsworthy reflecting life in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek. Our residents are global resource industry leaders, have stood on Olympic podiums, and gained international renown in their endeavours. Our communities offer a rural lifestyle with quick and easy access to beautiful wilderness perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.
This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Local Journalism Initiative. As an LJI journalist, your content will be shared widely across the Glacier Media network. It will also be made available to accredited media organizations for editorial use and may appear across Canada.
The reporter will be versatile, energetic, sociable, and community minded. They can integrate with ease, cultivate sources, and easily handle a mix of community news and challenging assignments on the big issues of the day. They can take eye-catching photos and video and have a keen interest in digital media storytelling.
Candidates must have a driver’s licence and reliable vehicle. Education in journalism and experience in daily or weekly newsrooms is an asset. The job includes evening and weekend work as required. We offer competitive wages and benefits, commensurate with experience.
