The Brandon Sun, a daily newspaper in southwestern Manitoba, is accepting applications for a number of permanent, full-time reporter/photographer positions in our newsroom. 

We are looking for talented writer/photographers who are able to investigate breaking news and produce compelling stories and features for both our online and print products.

We ask all reporters to be active on social media, have proficiency in still photography, and be comfortable with various forms of multimedia reporting. This position will require occasional evening and weekend work. Prior experience in a daily newsroom is an asset, but we will also consider relevant work experience. 
The Brandon Sun is an award-winning newspaper and is one of Canada’s leading small city dailies. Our news coverage includes the City of Brandon, as well as rural western Manitoba, which includes dozens of small and large towns, Indigenous communities and agriculturally-based municipalities. The Sun’s footprint covers a population of more than 120,000 people. 
Westman is home to countless festivals and popular music concerts that showcase local, national and international artists. The City of Brandon is a growing, forward-looking Prairie city of 50,000 in southwestern Manitoba with exceptional cultural diversity that offers a unique cosmopolitan experience in a rural Manitoba setting. 
Situated near Canadian Forces Base Shilo, Brandon is only an hour away from Riding Mountain National Park and has easy highway access to Winnipeg and an air link to Calgary.  


  • Superior writing skills and strong news judgment. 
  • Advanced photography and photo editing skills with demonstrated ability and creativity. 
  • A formal degree or diploma in journalism or related experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to cover breaking news 
  • Outstanding research skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Salary is commensurate with experience, as per the company's Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Brandon Sun also offers a comprehensive and generous suite of benefits. As a member of FP Newspapers, the Brandon Sun is a sister paper to the Winnipeg Free Press.
