The Opportunity:
Postmedia is seeking a dynamic, innovative journalism leader to oversee the editorial vision and content of its Ottawa newsroom. The right candidate will be committed to journalistic excellence, with strengths in developing enterprise reporting and digital first thinking. 
 
The role requires a strategic mind, a track record in digital journalism and an understanding of issues important to residents living in the nation’s capital city. The Ottawa newsroom produces content for both the Ottawa Citizen and the Ottawa Sun, so the candidate should understand the brand values and audiences of both publications. The Editor in Chief will also support the growth of Postmedia publications by facilitating content exchange, sharing expertise, and collaborating on major project work in all Postmedia markets.
 
What you’ll do:
  • Champion the editorial vision of the Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Sun, which includes passion, highly engaged commentary and excellence in local journalism
  • Provide editorial direction and oversee brand voice for consistency across platforms and products
  • Oversee day to day operations in the Ottawa newsroom
  • Drive engagement across all platforms and understand and advocate for Postmedia’s strategic pillars

Qualifications

  • A strong track record in senior leadership roles
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a clear understanding of how to manage, develop and lead people
  • 5 or more years of managerial experience in a publishing environment as a content editor
  • Deep familiarity with digital platforms and social media
  • The ability to think strategically, combined with the expertise to develop and execute against short-term and long-term objectives
  • An outstanding record at building relationships up, across, and down the organization where he / she is employed
