Golden West Broadcasting has been connecting communities for more than 65 years. We are proud to tell local stories on our radio stations and local online websites. And together with Homefield, we are proud to help local businesses grow through effective advertising, marketing, and organizational development solutions.

We are looking for passionate journalists to join our team. Reporting to the local program director, you will find and deliver relevant stories to our audience.

The Role
Gathering local stories: You will listen for the questions people in your community are asking. Then you will find leads, interview sources, and verify information along the way.

Crafting content: You will write radio and digital news stories, prepare photo galleries, and edit videos.

Delivering radio broadcasts: You will record and edit radio news reports.

Cultivating local relationships: You will develop relationships with local stakeholders and news sources.
What we offer in return:
  • A culture of innovation, adaptation, and acknowledgement.
  • A strong focus on giving back to our communities.
  • A caring environment where the health, safety, and well-being of our team members (and those being recruited) is a priority.
  • A diverse and respectful workplace; as an equal opportunity employer, we value and encourage diversity.
  • Vacation time, paid sick time, health benefits, Employee Assistance Plan, pension plan, and more.

The ideal candidate:
  • You have proven experience or education in media.
  • You have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and are familiar with the Canadian Press Guide.
  • Experience with WideOrbit, Burli, photography, and/or videography are an asset.
  • You are eager to engage with the community. You are curious and like to learn new things.
  • You have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Even if you feel you don't meet the above criteria, we'd still love to meet you. Please reach out to careers@goldenwest.ca. A resume, a cover letter stating you found this job on Jeff Gaulin's Journalism Board and an audio or video introduction is the best place to begin.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Golden West is committed to providing a fair and equitable work environment and encourages applications from qualified women, men, visible minorities, indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities.
