When you join Newcom Media Inc., you’re joining a profitable, family-run B2B publishing business with an unwavering commitment to excellence. We hold ourselves to the highest level of journalistic ethics and strive to provide the best editorial product in every market we serve. We work hard to serve our audience in whichever medium they prefer – digital, print, live events and more.

We foster a collaborative, friendly and supportive work environment where everyone looks out for each other. We value diverse experiences and wisdom while embracing innovation. We encourage autonomy and initiative while providing proper guidance and the right tools to do the job.

We recognize that the workplace is evolving. Our newly renovated, modern offices are transit accessible and highway accessible. We are also proud to offer flexible and hybrid work arrangements, understanding that top performers can thrive in a variety of settings.

We are currently seeking a senior editor for Advisor’s Edge and Investment Executive, Canada’s leading publications for financial advisors. Together, these brands have more than 50 years of experience serving Canada’s financial industry. Both brands have news-oriented websites that are updated several times daily, as well as award-winning print publications.

The senior editor will join an experienced, energetic and passionate team of financial journalists and report to the Editorial Director. This senior-level role combines both strategic and tactical responsibilities. The successful candidate will help ensure daily operations run smoothly while producing top-notch journalism that focuses on issues of concern for Canadian financial advisors and executives.

Responsibilities
  • Co-manage and edit news coverage for both brands.
  • Co-manage the print cycle for the newspaper with the managing editor. Perform quality control for print and digital products.
  • Manage contributions by staff and freelance writers, contributors and designers.
  • Pitch, write, edit and produce content for print and digital platforms. Refine a beat while maintaining knowledge of and advising on other topics.
  • Cultivate industry sources and represent the brands at industry events (virtual and in person).
  • Develop coverage and new ways to engage readers.
  • Collaborate with editorial team members and with colleagues in other departments such as sales, circulation, digital and content solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A strong reporter and editor with a track record of running daily and longer-term operations. Leadership experience is a valuable asset.
  • Strong news judgment and experience developing story ideas for all platforms for a sophisticated audience. Ability to report for a niche audience while writing accessibly and succinctly.
  • Able to write news and analysis pieces with speed and clarity. Able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to manage freelancers and industry contributors to ensure timely copy flow and that editorial standards are met.
  • Strong research, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Eagerness to be immersed in the worlds of finance and investment.
  • Minimum eight years of related experience, ideally with a focus on business reporting.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in business, journalism or related field.
  • Comfort with social media and online content management. Wordpress experience is an asset.
  • Comfort with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InCopy, is an asset.
  • Ability to speak French is an asset.

Newcom Media welcomes and encourages applications from people of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
