Description

Reporter - Telegraph-Journal

The Telegraph-Journal is recruiting for a full-time reporter position in our Saint John newsroom. We are seeking a professional journalist with a keen sense for news, an eagerness to break stories and a clear writing style. Our reporters quickly immerse themselves in assignments, thoroughly researching and reporting news and feature stories. They are enterprising and dig up stories on their own. They also work together as part of a news team to serve our readers.

This is a one-year contract position through the Local Journalism Initiative program. The successful candidate will be responsible for covering the dynamic communities of Charlotte County, including but not limited to covering council meetings, breaking news and community events. This reporter will join a team of two municipal affairs reporters that take pride in their work, help each other out and are eager to support a new member of the team.

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic and career-driven team player to join our award-winning newsroom in Saint John.

Responsibilities
  • Pitch, report and write stories for online and print.
  • Verify news and other copy for accuracy.
  • Arrange and conduct interviews as part of research and for print/multimedia.

Qualifications

  • University or college-level studies in journalism or a related field.
  • Previous newsroom experience.
  • A clean writing style and a demonstrated ability to produce detailed, accurate work on deadline.
  • Working knowledge of, and experience in using, social media.
  • Highly developed organizational skills – able to multitask, particularly in high-stress situations.
  • An excellent command of English; fluency in French would be a definite asset.
  • Photography and videography skills are also an asset.
  • A sound understanding of media law.
  • A valid driver's licence.

If you are interested in applying for this career opportunity, please send a copy of your resume, including a cover letter stating you found this on Jeff Gaulin's Journalism Board and clippings, to managing editor Barbara Simpson, simpson.barbara@brunswicknews.com, by May 9.
