The Opportunity
Working out of the Grande Prairie Daily Herald Tribune newsroom and also remotely, the successful candidate will be expected to cover news and events in the northern Alberta communities of Peace River and Fairview. Applicants are expected to have good news judgment, and demonstrable strengths in accurate, clean reporting, and an ability to initiate stories and enterprise features.

Candidates must be familiar with emerging digital trends and opportunities, be able to shoot video with a mobile device, and know how to leverage social media and digital platforms to break news and reach audiences. They must be comfortable with filing stories on tight deadlines, and be keen to learn and experiment to find new ways to tell stories and engage readers.

What you’ll do:
The successful candidate must be community minded, and understand the needs of readers in these areas. The successful applicant will be a self-starter who can work as part of a team. Applicants must hold a valid driver’s license, as well as their own vehicle. 

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a journalism degree or diploma
  • A reliable car and a valid driver's license are essential 
  • Candidates must own a DSLR camera
  • Experience and knowledge of social media an asset 
  • Layout experience with Adobe InDesign is preferred and considered an asset
