The Brandon Sun, a daily newspaper in southwestern Manitoba, is accepting applications for a permanent, full-time reporter/photographer position in our newsroom.

We are looking for a talented writer/photographer who is able to investigate breaking news and produce compelling stories and features for both our online and print products.

Candidates should be active on social media, have proficiency in still photography, and be comfortable with multimedia reporting. This position will require occasional evening and weekend work.

Prior experience at a daily newspaper is an asset, but we will also consider relevant work experience.

The Brandon Sun is an award-winning company and is one of Canada’s leading community dailies. Our news coverage includes the City of Brandon, as well as the Westman region, which includes dozens of small and large towns, Indigenous communities and agriculturally-based municipalities. The Sun's footprint covers a population of more than 120,000 people.

As a member of FP Newspapers, the Brandon Sun is a sister paper to the Winnipeg Free Press. Salary is commensurate with experience, as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Brandon Sun also offers a comprehensive and generous suite of benefits. 


  • Superior writing skills and strong news judgment.
  • Advanced photography and photo editing skills with demonstrated ability and creativity.
  • A formal degree or diploma in journalism or related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to cover breaking news
  • Outstanding research skills, and excellent communication skills.
