Position Purpose Summary

The Digital Media Specialist is responsible for managing the Salvationist.ca website and supporting other subsites out of territorial headquarters. The Digital Media Specialist maintains the look, layout and branding of the website as well as preparing online reports, e-newsletters and social media graphics/strategies. The Digital Media Specialist assists the Senior Graphic Designer with graphic design and photography for the territorial print publications as assigned. The DMC also facilitates additional media projects in collaboration with the communications team (e.g. video, webinars, etc.)

Key Responsibilities

Salvationist.ca website:
  • Accountable for the website design, graphic support, and maintenance of the Salvationist.ca site using Radiant WebTools
  • Help establish a web presence for other territorial headquarters departments
  • Provide training in content management system for website editors
  • Accountable for the modification/creation of website landing pages, content pages, contact forms, etc.
  • Maintain website security and efficiency with the help of technical support/IT Department
  • Suggest areas of potential optimization across all web/digital channels through the use of A/B testing and structured reporting
  • Monitor and report regularly on website, email, and social media presence and performance with accompanying recommendations for improvement
  • Ensure AODA compliance for websites and other digital media
Other Digital Media:
  • Accountable for the modification/creation of email newsletters using industry best practices
  • Monitor and report on the impact, effectiveness, and success for all email campaigns and recommend areas of optimization
  • Facilitate additional media projects in collaboration with the communications team (e.g. video, webinars, etc.)
  • Develop social media strategies and tools to extend reach and enhance user experience
  • Create app and digital version of the publications with enhanced functionality
  • In consultation with the Senior Graphic Designer and Editor-in-Chief, manage agencies, vendors and/or other third parties working on the development of more complex tech requirements, digital marketing campaigns or other initiatives
  • Take photographs to support stories and articles in the magazines and website, as assigned
Print Media:
  • Assist Senior Graphic Designer in designing territorial print publications (Salvationist, Faith & Friends, and Just for Kids)
  • Ensure quality control for all artwork sent to external printers
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest trends in visual art and design
  • Ensure that monthly issues of the magazines are archived for future use on Issuu.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications:
  • Completion of a college/university degree program in graphic arts, web design, or digital marketing is required
Experience:
  • Minimum three years’ of relevant experience or a combination of equivalent educational experience
  • Experience writing HTML and CSS
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver)
  • Expertise with Google Analytics: developing custom reports, segments, ecommerce, channel attribution, etc.
  • Experience with email management systems such as MailChimp
  • Understanding of CASL, rules/laws around email subscriptions
  • Experience with search engine optimization, social media and digital marketing campaigns
  • Experience using Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Knowledge of AODA compliance standards for accessibility
Required Skills/Knowledge:
  • Technical proficiency working on both Mac OS and Windows
  • Basic working knowledge of photography/videography is an asset
