We are currently recruiting for a civic news reporter/photographer for an award-winning community weekly newspaper near Grande Prairie in northern Alberta.
Town & Country News is an independently owned heritage newspaper established in 1956. We are trusted for our comprehensive local news and feature coverage of this large oil and gas and farming district of northern Alberta.
Town & Country News is a member of the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association and News Media Canada.
We are located in an outdoor recreationist’s paradise, with copious opportunities for sledding, hunting, fishing at our back door. With only 20 minutes to the City of Grande Prairie or an hour to the B.C. border, this is an exceptional staging point for innumerable lifestyle choices.
This is a full-time position with a very competitive salary and room for advancement.
You should have a strong interest in local politics and be able to follow stories developing out of municipal council meetings that will be of interest to our readers. You should be able to work independently on a broad range of local political issues. Filing clean, accurate stories on deadline should be a strength, as well as the ability to use sound news sense to create a solid network of community contacts.
- Have a passion of civic news and an understanding of municipal government
- Have strong photographic experience
- Be able to work efficiently and independently
- Possess fluency in social media platforms and websites
- Use critical thinking skills
- Have a laptop, DSLR camera and reliable vehicle
