Deadline: February 14, 2020

Description

Cabin Radio seeks a journalist to join the team in our Yellowknife newsroom.

We create some of the territory's most innovative and eye-catching written and broadcast journalism, while aspiring to the highest editorial standards. Our reporting is robust, accurate, fair, and comprehensive, and our work makes a real difference to people's lives across the Northwest Territories.

Our team is small, warm-hearted, and human (except the station dog). We're an independent newsroom owned by people who live in Yellowknife and work at the station. We make our decisions based on fostering high-quality, impactful output, and we give our journalists the opportunity to seek out and tell stories that they believe matter. We provide the training, development, and support needed to tell those stories on the widest range of platforms.

You will be one of the faces of Cabin Radio to NWT residents, with the opportunity of a role on-camera and on-air. However, your day-to-day focus will be written journalism published on Cabin Radio's website, which is part of the daily routine for many of the territory's 40,000 residents.

The territory generates extraordinarily diverse stories. Our reporters can expect to closely cover Indigenous, federal, territorial, and municipal governments; the NWT's mining industry; climate change; crises in education, child and family services, and housing; the quest for bigger, better northern infrastructure; and the NWT's many outstanding achievers in the fields of sports and the arts, among many other topics.
