Investment Executive, a national business publication, is looking for three entry-level research journalists to conduct a series of investigative surveys with key members of the financial services sector. Each journalist would also contribute story ideas and write related research articles for the newspaper’s annual and acclaimed Report Card series.
Candidates should be self-starters, confident, inquisitive, hard-working and very comfortable conducting thorough telephone interviews in survey format—as their work days will be spent conducting interviews for the length of the contract. Candidates should also demonstrate strong writing skills and be able to work efficiently under tight time constraints. Fluency in French is a significant asset, as is experience in business journalism.
The three contract positions will begin on Jan. 2, 2020 and end in mid-June, with further freelance writing commitments throughout the summer and early autumn. Pay is $16/hour and articles written will be paid for separately, at $0.50 per word. Those hired will each have up to five articles published in Investment Executive.
Investment Executive is owned by Newcom Media Inc. and published 12 times per year. It caters to the financial services sector, specifically financial advisors and planners who work with investors.
Ideal applicants: Recent journalism graduates who are available and committed to fulfilling a full-time contract for six months.
Interested candidates can send their resumes, along with three published writing samples and two references, to research editor Katie Keir at firstname.lastname@example.org by Fri. Nov. 1 at 5 pm EST. Please put “Research journalist application” in the subject of your email and stating you found this job on Jeff Gaulin's Journalism Job Board.
We thank all applicants for their interest, but only those considered for an interview will be contacted.
