The Cochrane Eagle, a provincial and national award-winning weekly newspaper with a daily online presence at CochraneTODAY.ca, is looking for a multimedia editor to join its team.
The Cochrane Eagle, with a circulation of just over 12,000 newspapers, serves a readership area of more than 30,000 people from Cochrane and area to the First Nation Community of Morley.
Situated between the City of Calgary and the Rocky Mountains, Cochrane is the perfect destination for anyone seeking a work/life balance with an eye for the great outdoors.
The Cochrane Eagle is seeking a strong and diverse editor with the ability to direct the day-to-day operations of our newsroom, pen insightful and informative editorials, turn good copy into great copy, and ensure deadlines are met for both our weekly paper and daily online schedules.
The editor will also be responsible for covering the paper's political beat and managing social media engagement. From features to breaking news, to politics and education, working at the Eagle is never boring and the region is known as a key staging ground for provincial and federal politics.
- Have a journalism degree, diploma or equivalent experience
- Have previous newsoom experience
- Have an exceptional eye for detail
- Have a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence
- Have exceptional writing and editing skills
- Have their own camera
- Be comfortable meeting daily deadlines for online content
- Be a self-starter with an ability to generate story ideas
- Be willing to work weekends and evenings
Preference will be given to candidates living within the coverage area.
Proficiency with page layout in inDesign will also be considered an asset.
