Castanet Media is looking for an experienced journalist to lead a team of two at our Vernon bureau.
You will work as part of a team of 10 journalists across the Okanagan Valley, under the direction of the Director of Content.
The Vernon news editor will schedule and organize coverage from this two-man newsroom, generate story ideas, assign and edit copy, post content to the site, while ensuring the highest quality. The ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment is a must. Some after-hours work may be necessary from time to time.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently and in conjunction with our team of journalists across the Okanagan.
Ideally, you will have broadcast and print training, and will be as comfortable in front of the camera as in editing your own video content.
You must have a journalism degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution, along with exceptional knowledge of Canadian Press style.
The chosen candidate will have a positive attitude, great communication skills, and be calm under pressure.
You will be able to work in a fast-paced environment focused on breaking news and know how to develop your own stories and contacts.
You will be adept at writing, editing, photography, website management, and shooting and editing video on a tight turnaround.
A minimum of three years journalism experience is required.
