Castanet News, the B.C. Interior’s leading online news source and most-visited news website in all of British Columbia, is looking for a talented, experienced video editor.
You’re an expert at Final Cut, a whiz at LiveStreaming, and have a creative eye for generating graphics. Whipping a video together in under an hour is old hat for you. You’re a camera and computer geek who’s always up on the latest gadgets and trends.
The editor will work with reporters under the direction of the Director of Content.
The editor will produce and edit his/her own video work in conjunction with both the news team and with advertising staff for sponsored content.
He or she will also edit reporters’ video work, our daily Evening Update package, accompany reporters when a second shooter is needed on location, manage Castanet’s YouTube and LiveStream accounts, while researching the latest technology and equipment to make our jobs faster and more efficient.
Your mandate will be to increase video views, increase the number of stories that include video, and to improve the overall quality of that video. You will also search out video on the greater web that can be embedded in stories we have already posted.
You will work with our staff at locations in Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton to schedule and co-ordinate the best video in our front-page video player. You will be responsible for consistency of style, development of new graphics and other features, coaching and introduction of new equipment/best practices.
You must be able to create/edit multiple short videos per day on tight deadlines for the news side and produce exceptional client videos for sponsored content while working directly with advertisers.
You will be equally comfortable in front of the camera as behind it.
The successful candidate must be a video expert, with experience in Final Cut and journalism a definite asset.
Broadcast journalism degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution or applicable career experience, with a specialization or additional education in video production/editing.
