JWN Energy is looking for a reporter for the digital Daily Oil Bulletin (DOB), our flagship publication. The DOB’s mission is to provide in-depth news and analysis of data, trends and issues facing the Canadian energy industry.
 
You will be part of a tight-knit, supportive team that is passionate about reporting on the dynamic oil and gas sector. This is a regular, full-time position, reporting to the editor. This reporting position will focus on providing insights on and for Canada’s service and supply sector, which supports oil and gas producers. Your role will also include uncovering trends, drawing insights and producing exclusive content in a detailed but still readable manner using our data as the source (drilling/rig activity data; operational and financial).
 
This is an opportunity to:
  • Generate content about Canada’s oilfield services companies (activity, new technology, rig moves, financial and operational updates, labour issues, etc.)
  • Create analytical pieces based on data derived from our internal databases
  • Attend conferences, presentations, annual meetings and other events and report on how broad industry trends/issues impact the service and supply industry
  • Write longer contextual features

Qualifications

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry and terminology is a distinct asset
  • Familiarity with financial reporting is an asset
  • Sound working knowledge of CP style for punctuation and grammar
Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Strong numeracy skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Ability to think critically
  • Strong personal organization and time management skills
  • Great communication skills
  • A good-natured personality – strong interpersonal skills are a must
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in journalism, electronic publishing or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum three to five years of reporting experience
  • Economics, business or geology courses would be an asset
