The Battlefords News-Optimist has an opening for a full-time
The successful candidate will be responsible for general
news reporting for a twice-weekly newspaper.
Our newsroom combines experience with youth, creating an
environment focused on mentorship and teamwork. We believe practising
journalism should be a fun occupation. We enjoy our work.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to
get hands-on experience in a community currently experiencing an economic
upswing. Opportunities include coverage of all aspects of community news —
features, crime, municipal government, education, health and other areas as
The Battlefords is an active, vibrant community encompassing
the city of North Battleford and the town of Battleford. Rental accommodation
rates are considered affordable.
Amenities include a golf course in the community in the
beautiful North Saskatchewan River Valley, plus two at nearby Jackfish Lake.
There are opportunities for cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, curling,
swimming, lawn bowling, hunting, fishing, baseball, sailing and more, all
within or in close proximity to the Battlefords. The Battlefords are also home
to a recreational multiplex that includes a field house, aquatic centre, curling
centre and performance theatre.
The community also has an active arts component including
two art galleries and two community players theatre companies.
Gold Eagle Casino anchors one end of the community. It

Experience in photography is preferred. Reporters are provided with digital cameras.
A reliable vehicle is a must, and of course, you must be willing to relocate. Flexible hours are also a component of news reporting.
