Estevan Mercury Publications boasts two award-winning weekly newspapers. The Estevan Mercury is one of Saskatchewan’s oldest and most respected weeklies. It is published each Wednesday, and distributed to all residences in Estevan and some rural residents. Southeast Lifestyles, which emphasizes human interest and community stories, is delivered on Fridays to all homes in Estevan and to numerous rural communities in the southeast region. Both papers have a strong following in the southeast region, and are well-known for covering a variety of sports and news in the region.

Estevan Mercury Publications is owned by the Glacier Media Corp., and is part of the Prairie Newspaper Group. We offer a full benefits package after three months of employment.

We are looking for an experienced sports reporter to cover various events in the community. Estevan has a rich sports history, with hockey of all levels (including the junior A Estevan Bruins), as well as dirt track auto racing, curling, baseball, football, lacrosse, basketball, golf and more.

Estevan has hosted numerous marquee sporting events, including the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games and the 2016 Western Canada Cup junior A hockey championship. We will be hosting the 2018 SaskTel Tankard men’s provincial curling championship.

The successful applicant will be responsible for finding story ideas and accepting assignments from the editor..The expectation will be 12 to 15 stories per week. This person will also have to upload some stories to our website, www.estevanmercury.ca.

Not only will this person have interviewing and writing skills, but photography skills are a must. Also beneficial will be knowledge of using various social media platforms and uploading videos.


  • A post-secondary journalism diploma or degree (or equivalent);
  • Experience in print journalism;
  • Knowledge of CP style; 
  • A valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Availability to cover evening and weekend events.
